Are you an Amateur Chef who has a Signature Dish?
Yet another foodie show soon to hit the wire. A producer from RelativityREAL writes, “If you make at least one signature dish that your family and friends go crazy for, then we are searching for someone EXACTLY LIKE YOU. No professional chefs or fussy, fancy dishes. We’re looking for family favorites and comfort foods…So pick the dish you’re most proud of and put it to the test in a cooking competition that gives amateur chefs the chance to win a BIG CASH PRIZE.” Interested parties should email cookingshow@rrstaff.com before February 8.

Just because you are a parent doesn’t mean that you have to eat hot dogs and Cheerios for every meal! The Gastrokid Cookbook: Feeding a Foodie Family in a Fast-Food World is a GREAT new cook book for our busy families who love and appreciate good food but don’t have the time to prepare a four course, sit down dinner every night. One of the writers is Hugh Garvey who is a features editor at Bon Appetit- he is a true foodie with two young kids and has realized first hand how difficult it is to eat well while being a full time dad. The cookbook comes out in August and can be purchased at most bookstores or online through Amazon.com. Hugh is also considering giving cooking classes to families which could be fun for moms and dads to learn new tricks!

Enjoy and let us know your thoughts!

Delicious Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes
The kitchen is a great place for children to learn and experience new things. I grew up in the kitchen with my Mom and remember licking the batter and always smelling yummy food…I still do!
When we started this blog at The Help Company, my Mom had a wonderful idea. She thought about posting fun weekly recipes. I asked her provide me with recipes that parents or nannies could do with children. The following is her first recipe that she is sharing with us. Thanks Mom!
ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES
“Speaking from experience, I would like to share some special and very fond memories with all of you out there. I have always enjoyed cooking with my three children, Hillary twenty -nine, Stephen twenty-seven, and Melanie twenty-four. One of their favorite birthday treats at home or at school (pre-school to third grade) were these fabulous ice cream cone cupcakes. Choose your child’s favorite flavor cake mix. Using a cupcake tin, place a sugar ice cream cone in each space. Follow the directions for baking directly off the cake mix box. Fill each cone three-fourths full, and let your child watch them rise through the oven door with the oven light on. Let the cone cupcakes cool and begin the fun, decorating with your child. You can use any flavor frostings, sprinkles, coconut, whatever you like. Your child will be so excited with his or her creative treats. You can also include your party guests in decorating at home or if you choose, take these treats to your child’s classroom and let the class decorate together. This food project is fun, easy, and creative. Make sure you pay attention to the facial expressions on everyone, “big eyes”, “big smiles”, and “big appetites”. Until we chat again….your friend, Linda Levi-Baum”
