Nannies A nanny's primary responsibility is child care. Typical tasks include: Preparing meals for the children Bathing Tutoring/Assisting with schoolwork Playing (small or large motor skill activities) Communicate with families and teachers as needed Some nanny positions include light housekeeping. Cleaning tasks can include: Picking up children's bedrooms and playrooms Doing children's laundry Cleaning the nanny's room Cleaning the kitchen after preparing children's meals Some optional services a nanny might offer include: Doing the family laundry Loading and emptying dishwasher Vacuuming Shopping for groceries and other errands All responsibilities should be mutually agreed upon before a nanny commences employment. Click here to review a sample a agreement. A typical live-out work arrangement consists of a 5-day workweek of approximately 45-55 hours per week. Any overtime should be compensated as arranged prior to employment. A live-in nanny should be provided with room and board along with an appropriate salary. Usually the live-in nanny works longer hours, so the compensation is typically the same, or sometimes more than, a live-out nanny's salary. All salaries should be discussed and arranged between the nanny and the family. The Help Company can help negotiate if need be.
